What is Alpha

Are you curious about faith?

Do you find yourself wondering about life? is there more to life than this? who was Jesus? why read the Bible? how do I pray? These questions and more come up and are explored as part of Alpha.

All are welcome, it’s a chance to explore the questions of life and faith.

Comments from participants included: “I pray more now”, “It’s really revived my faith”, as well as people who enjoyed the food, films and chats. One person has returned to church after a gap; another heard of Jesus teachings for the first time and realized they need to make a decision.

When does Alpha meet?

We will be running Alpha again from September to November jointly with Dalmeny and Queensferry Parish Church, and The Priory, Queensferry

Look out for details in August - all are welcome to these weekly discussions on the basics of our Christian faith

What happens at the meetings?

We watch a half hour DVD on a topic such as

  • 'Who is Jesus?'

  • 'How and Why should I read the Bible?'

  • 'Does God heal today?'

  • Sessions on prayer, the Holy Spirit, suffering, and church.

We then have a half hour discussion on each topic and encourage each other in further reading and prayer. It's very informal and all sorts of views arise!

So come for your tea, for a chat or just curiosity!

Who is Alpha for?

Join a series of group conversations that freely explore the basics of the Christian faith in an open, friendly environment. At each Alpha session, you’ll be hosted in a small group and watch an episode on a different question of faith - then you have a chance to share your thoughts and hear what others think. You can say anything you like, or nothing at all.

Some of us were already church members before we did Alpha but it has deepened our faith and led to a better relationship with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit: some who come have no faith or very little knowledge.

Everyone’s welcome. You’re invited, no matter your background or beliefs. It’s free and there’s no pressure to come back.
